Robert Adzema. Autumn Sunset, Todd Hill.
Even if you cannot personally ramble around the seductive byways of Northwest Connecticut, there are plenty of painters ready to take you there. At the latest art show at the United Church of Christ in Cornwall, Connecticut, you can see watercolors, pastels and acrylics by three talented local artists. The plein air painter Robert Adzema handles watercolor with grace, floating colors to the edge and finding delicate textures for landscapes in all seasons. I especially appreciated the severity of his bare branches and trunks slashing through the foreground of a muted mountain backdrop.
Sybil Perry. Lilies and Stripes.
One of Sybil Perry’s most intriguing pastel views features a plowed field which lies marvelously striped above a pond with lily pads whose gentle circles speak a beautiful geometry to the furrowed contours of the pasture above.
Sandy Dolinsky. Pastoral Brookside Farm
In her landscape, Sandy Dolinsky pays loving tribute to the ubiquitous stone wall, the enduring feature of New England’s spaces that gently reminds us of the hand of mankind shaping contrasting vistas of field and forest. These works celebrating nature remind us that painter and viewer unite in the mystery and grandeur of color that is revealed through the artist’s hand.
